Why no banner or no price

Underbook shows a result only when it can tell which hotel and which dates you are looking at, and only with the prices Google Hotels has. Here is what stops it, and what to do.

Why is there no Underbook banner on this page?

Underbook shows its banner only on the page of one hotel with your check-in and check-out dates, so the usual reasons are that the dates are missing, the page is not one hotel's page, the site is one it does not recognize, or the place is a room rental.

  • Dates missing: pick your dates on the hotel page. When Underbook knows the hotel but finds no dates, it says "Pick your check-in and check-out dates on the hotel page." On some pages it waits quietly until the dates are there.
  • Not one hotel's page: search results, a site's home page, maps, flight, car and package pages, and checkout or payment steps are skipped. Open one hotel from the list.
  • A site it does not recognize: click the Underbook icon in your toolbar (pin it first). That checks the page you are on, reading its title or main heading as the hotel's name.
  • A room rental: Underbook compares hotels that Google Hotels lists. It stays off Airbnb, because a private rental has no Google Hotels listing to compare, and on other rental sites a check usually ends with no price (why no price).
  • A tab opened before you installed Underbook: in Chrome and Edge a new extension starts only on pages opened after the install, so reload the tab, or click the Underbook icon, which checks it without a reload.
  • You closed it: a closed banner stays closed for that hotel and those dates on that page (how to get it back).
  • A private or incognito window: browsers keep extensions off there unless you allow them (settings for Chrome, Edge and Firefox).

Why does Underbook say it found no price?

Underbook gets its prices from Google Hotels, so it finds none when Google Hotels does not list the property, when no booking site there publishes a rate for your dates right now, or when no site prices a room for your number of adults.

  • Not on Google Hotels: small guesthouses, hostels and holiday rentals often are not. From version 0.5.30 the banner says so: "We couldn't find this property on Google Hotels, where our prices come from."
  • No prices for these dates: Google Hotels lists the hotel but shows no prices for those dates right now. From version 0.5.30 the banner says that too. Prices can appear later, so try again later or ask for an email (below).
  • Three adults or more: few sites publish a rate for 3 or more adults in one room. Underbook then looks for the price per room for 2 adults, and if that finds nothing either, it says no site is publishing a rate for your party or per room for 2.
  • Versions before 0.5.30 show one line for every case: "We checked the booking sites we compare but couldn't confirm rates for this hotel right now."

What you can do: type your email in the box under the message, and Underbook checks once a day and emails you when a rate appears, then at most once more if the going rate is at least 5% lower on two daily checks in a row. Or try the web price checker with the hotel's full name as the booking site shows it. After three empty results in a row, the banner shrinks to one line, without the email box, until a check finds a price or 6 hours pass without an empty one.

I closed the banner. How do I get it back?

In the newest version (from 0.5.33), click the Underbook icon in your toolbar and the banner comes back; in older versions, reload the page.

A closed banner stays closed only for that hotel and those dates on that page. Open another hotel, or change the dates, and Underbook checks again by itself. The icon is under the puzzle-piece menu until you pin it.
