Booked on Booking.com. The price fell.

Booking.com price dropped after you booked?
First, find where the lower price is.

There are two different fixes, and one question decides which one you use: is the lower price on another website, or on Booking.com itself? Here is what Booking.com's own terms say, in plain words, and the order of steps that never leaves you without a room.

For a stay you can cancel for free. Free · no account · we never see your booking number or payment details.

The short answer

Find your confirmation, then find the cheaper price. Where it is decides the route.

Lower on another website

Use We Price Match. Booking.com's terms say that if, after you book, you find the same accommodation with the same conditions for less on another website, they promise to refund the difference. Keep your booking while you claim: a cancelled booking can't be matched. What a claim needs.

Lower on Booking.com itself

The price match terms are written about an offer on another website, so don't count on a claim here. If your booking has free cancellation, book the lower rate, then cancel the original before its deadline. The rebook steps.

What a We Price Match claim needs

From Booking.com's terms of service (section B7.1, marked as updated August 25, 2025; we read it on October 1, 2026). The other offer has to match your booking on every one of these:

The other offer must be online and available when Booking.com checks it, so save the link. If you claim by email, you send a screenshot and the link to the other offer. You can also claim by phone with customer service.

After they validate a claim, Booking.com says it will amend the reservation price if it can, or tell you how to claim the difference as a refund after your stay. We did not find a claim deadline in that section, so do not count on having time: claim while the cheaper offer is still online, and well before check-in.

When the terms say you can't claim

  • You cancelled your booking. Claim first. Once you cancel, the booking can't be matched.
  • The cheaper price is a loyalty or rewards price, lowered for repeat business, logging in, a coupon code or a similar action.
  • The other site hides the property or room type until after you book, or looks opaque, suspicious or fraudulent.
  • Your reservation is a Partner offer, or you compare against a Partner offer on Booking.com.
  • You booked a single-unit property. The terms say one like that can't, by its nature, be available elsewhere.

Lower on Booking.com itself: rebook, then cancel

This only works if your booking has free cancellation. Booking.com's own guide to cancelling says to log in to your account, find the reservation and look for the cancel or modify options. Check the cancellation policy on your confirmation. Then, in this order:

  1. 1

Read your deadline, with the time. Booking.com's guide says the cancellation deadline is usually calculated in the hotel's local time zone, not yours. For a hotel abroad, work out what that is where you are.

  2. 2

Check that the new rate is the same stay. Same room type and beds, same guests, same meal plan, and compare the total with taxes and fees on the checkout page, not the headline price. Read the new rate's cancellation terms too: if it is non-refundable, you can't rebook again if the price falls further.

  3. 3

Book the new rate first, and wait for its confirmation email.

  4. 4

Then cancel the original before its deadline, and keep the cancellation confirmation. Check your card until any charge or hold from the old booking is gone.

Pick one route per booking: a booking you have cancelled can no longer be price matched. The full checklist, for any site, is in how to rebook a hotel for a lower price.

Price match or rebook?

We Price Match

  • You keep the booking you have
  • Compares like with like, including the cancellation policy
  • Needs the same stay on another website, matching on every condition
  • You file a claim with proof, and the money may come back after your stay

Rebook and cancel

  • Works for any lower rate you can book, on Booking.com or elsewhere
  • No claim to win: you simply hold the cheaper booking
  • Only if your booking has free cancellation
  • The deadline is everything, and the room is yours to check

Not sure which kind of booking you have? Start with the general playbook. Booked a non-refundable rate? See what still works on a non-refundable booking.

Catch the drop before your deadline

A drop only helps if you notice it before your deadline. If your Booking.com stay has free cancellation, we can look for you. If the lower rate turns up on another site, you can book it there, or file a We Price Match claim with it when it matches every condition.

  • You tell us what you paid per night, with taxes and fees, and the last day you can cancel for free.
  • We check the rates listed for your hotel and dates once a day.
  • We email you once if a listed rate is at least 5% lower than what you paid (and at least $5 a night lower, or about that in your currency) on two daily checks in a row. The email names the site and the price.
  • You check the room before you rebook. A lower rate can be for another room, bed type or meal plan. You book and cancel yourself; we never do either.
  • We stop at your free-cancellation date. We need two checks in a row, so a rate that first drops on your deadline day itself comes too late for an alert.

Free, no account. We never ask for your booking number, your name or your payment details.

Booking.com price drops: common questions

Does Booking.com refund the difference if the price drops after I book?

Only in one case. Booking.com's We Price Match terms say that if, after you book, you find the same accommodation with the same conditions for less on another website, they promise to refund the difference. The terms are written about an offer on another website, not a lower price on Booking.com itself. For that, the route is to rebook: if your booking has free cancellation, book the lower rate, then cancel the original before its deadline.

What does the cheaper offer have to match for a Booking.com price match?

The same property and accommodation type, the same check-in and check-out dates, the same cancellation policy and conditions, the same number of occupants and the same add-on or meal plan. It must be online and available when Booking.com checks, so save the link and a screenshot.

Can I claim a Booking.com price match after I cancel?

No. Booking.com's terms list cancelling your booking as a case where you can't make a claim. If you want the price match, keep the booking and claim first. If you rebook instead, the cancelled original can no longer be matched.

What time does Booking.com free cancellation end?

The exact date and time are in your booking and on your confirmation. Booking.com's own guide to cancelling says the deadline is usually calculated in the hotel's local time zone, not yours, so for a hotel abroad, convert it to your own time.

Can Underbook tell me if my Booking.com stay gets cheaper?

Yes, if you can cancel it for free. Tell us what you paid per night and your free-cancellation date. We check once a day and email you once if a listed rate is at least 5% lower on two daily checks in a row. Check the room before you rebook. It is free, and we never see your booking number or payment details.
