Non-refundable hotel, and the price dropped?
Rebooking won't help. A like-for-like price match might.

What still works, by where you booked

The cheaper offer has to be the same stay with the same conditions, including being non-refundable.

Next time: price the flexibility before you skip it

Non-refundable is often the right call. But flexibility is sometimes cheaper than people think. In our 14 snapshots of 5,830 hotels (September 25 to October 1, 2026), at the 3,975 hotels that had both kinds of listing, the cheapest listing with free cancellation cost a median 9% more than the cheapest non-refundable one. At 1,535 of them (39%) the difference was 5% or less. And at 30% of hotels, no listing was marked with free cancellation at all, so sometimes there is no choice to make.

When the premium is small, a refundable rate keeps the rebook option open. When a refundable rate comes out ahead, with the math.

For your next refundable booking

A refundable rate only pays off if someone notices the drop in time. Book one you can cancel for free, and we watch it for you.

• You tell us what you paid per night, with taxes and fees, and the last day you can cancel for free.
• We check the rates listed for your hotel and dates once a day.
• We email you once if a listed rate is at least 5% lower than what you paid (and at least $5 a night lower, or about that in your currency) on two daily checks in a row. The email names the site and the price.
• You check the room before you rebook. A lower rate can be for another room, bed type or meal plan. You book and cancel yourself; we never do either.
• We stop at your free-cancellation date. We need two checks in a row, so a rate that first drops on your deadline day itself comes too late for an alert.

Free, no account. We never ask for your booking number, your name or your payment details.
