The study's count, before taxes and fees: in the September 29, 2026 snapshot, at 12 of the 17 Shanghai hotels with a price, the cheapest listing was 5% or more below the going rate. The cheapest site there: BusinessHotels.com at 2, klook at 2, Agoda at 1, Booking.com at 1, Hostelworld at 1, Hotels.com at 1, Super.com at 1, TravelUp at 1 and 2 other sites at 2 between them. These are the Shanghai rows of the study's per-hotel CSV (going_rate_usd and cheapest_usd, before taxes and fees).

Taxes and fees at Shanghai hotels
At the 10 hotels with both an all-in and a before-tax going rate, taxes and fees, as the booking sites reported them to Google Hotels, added a median of 6% ($11 a night) to the before-tax going rate: from 5% at Artyzen Habitat Taopu Shanghai to 6% at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Shanghai - Pudong.
