We measured this rather than guessed. Comparing listed rates across the same 24-hotel basket twice (June and August 2026) using Google Hotels data, two patterns held. First, the big-name booking sites price a matchable room at the same number. Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com and Priceline hold rate parity on the identical room, so tab-hopping between the household names usually confirms the same price four times. Second, the cheapest listing was almost always a lesser-known wholesale reseller running 10 to 40% under the consensus, but roughly 86% of those cheap rates could not be verified as the exact same room from listing data alone.
