Is Travelocity legit?
Short answer: yes. It runs on Expedia.
Travelocity is one of the original online travel agencies (it launched in 1996, the one with the Roaming Gnome). Since 2015 it has been owned by Expedia Group and runs on Expedia's booking platform. That makes the legitimacy question easy: the rooms are real, the bookings go through, and support is a large established operation. The more useful question is whether Travelocity ever gets you a better price than Expedia or anyone else. Usually it doesn't, because it's drawing from the same inventory. Here's the honest breakdown.
We have no affiliate relationship with Travelocity. This isn't a referral pitch. We lead with the lowest price we found, whoever lists it, and say whether it names your room.
The verdict, in plain terms
A legitimate, long-established brand. Just know that you are effectively booking on Expedia.

Is it ever cheaper than Expedia?
No, in our data, and that's the honest heart of this page. Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, and Hotels.com are all Expedia Group brands drawing on the same supply. In the 14 snapshots of our hotel price study that recorded every site's price (September 25 to October 1, 2026), Travelocity.com and Expedia.com both appeared at 3,372 hotels in 348 cities, and their listed prices before tax were the same to the dollar at all 3,372. That is the signed-out price on Google Hotels for the same hotel and dates, not a room-by-room or member-price check. Hotels.com is the exception in the family: it was below Expedia.com at 641 of 3,542 shared hotels (and above it at 136), so it is the one sibling worth comparing. Across groups the big names split more than parity suggests: Expedia and Booking.com were within $2 a night at only 54% of the 245 hotels listing both in our September 25 snapshot. The lowest-priced listing came most often from Super.com (1,340 hotels in our 17 snapshots of September 22 to October 10, 2026, typically 18% below the going rate), not from one big-brand OTA quietly undercutting its sibling.
So treat Travelocity as a perfectly safe place to book, not as a place to hunt for a secret discount. If you're deciding between it and Expedia, the practical differences are the interface and the loyalty program, not the price. If you want a genuinely lower number, that usually means a wholesale-style reseller, with the tradeoffs those carry, or catching a price drop before you book.
Before you book any OTA rate, check three things
- 1. The all-in total. Compare the price after taxes and fees, not the headline nightly rate.
- 2. The room type. Make sure it's the same room you'd book direct, not a smaller or "run of house" version.
- 3. The cancellation terms. A small difference isn't worth it if your plans might change and the rate is non-refundable.
How to check the price yourself
The honest way to know whether a Travelocity rate is really lower is to compare the all-in total for the exact same room and dates against the hotel's own site and one or two other booking sites, and to read the cancellation terms alongside the price. Doing that by hand across five tabs is tedious, which is exactly why most people don't bother.

Is Travelocity a scam?
No. It's an Expedia Group brand with a booking history going back to 1996. The complaints you'll find online are the standard OTA class: refund friction on non-refundable rates, changes that have to go through the OTA rather than the hotel, and occasional room-assignment surprises at check-in. Those are terms-and-support issues, not fake bookings.
Is Travelocity the same as Expedia?
Effectively, yes. Expedia Group bought Travelocity in 2015, and the site runs on Expedia's platform with the same inventory. In our 14 price snapshots of September 25 to October 1, 2026, Travelocity.com and Expedia.com listed the same price before tax, to the dollar, at all 3,372 hotels where both appeared on Google Hotels (the signed-out listed price, not a room or member-price check). The brand is different; the machinery underneath is shared. Orbitz matched Expedia.com the same way at all 3,317 hotels listing both; Hotels.com, also an Expedia Group site, priced differently more often.
Will I earn hotel loyalty points booking through Travelocity?
Usually not. Most hotel chains only award points and elite-night credit on bookings made direct or through select channels, and third-party OTA bookings typically don't qualify. If chain status matters to you, price the hotel's own site against the OTA; when the rates match, booking direct is the better value.
Can I cancel a Travelocity booking?
It depends on the rate. Refundable rates cancel fine within their window; the lowest rates are typically non-refundable. Cancellations run through Travelocity rather than the hotel, so allow extra time. Always read the specific rate's terms at checkout before paying; it's the single most important thing to verify.

Other sites next to Expedia's price
CheapTickets is another Expedia Group site, and in our snapshots it showed the same price as Expedia.com at 3,510 of 3,514 hotels listing both (Is CheapTickets legit?). eDreams, a travel agency based in Spain, showed the same price as Travelocity at 2,114 of 2,566 hotels listing both (Is eDreams legit?). PriceTravel, a site run by BTC Americas Corporation, priced on its own: it showed Travelocity's price at only 48 of 274 hotels listing both, and where the two differed on the same tax footing it was lower at 137 and Travelocity at 40 (Is PriceTravel legit?). müvTravel (müv AI on Google Hotels), run by müv, Inc. of Massachusetts, which says it is not a travel agent, showed the same price as an Expedia Group site at 182 of the 338 hotels where one was listed (Is müvTravel legit?). ZenHotels, run by Leaside Services Limited of Cyprus, did the same at 54 of 94 and was never recorded as the lowest price (Is ZenHotels legit?).
