Does Hilton show taxes and fees upfront?
Mandatory fees, by agreement and by law.

For mandatory fees, yes by its own agreement, and US law now asks the same of every booking site: Hilton agreed, in a settlement with Nebraska's Attorney General, to "prominently disclose the total price of a hotel stay, including room rate and all other mandatory fees" on the first page of its booking sites, and since May 12, 2025 the FTC's fee rule requires every hotel and booking site to show that total for US stays, while letting taxes be added later. On price, Hilton's own site was within 1% of the lowest of six big booking sites at 262 of 372 Hilton hotels (70%) in our 16 price snapshots of September 25 to October 10, 2026, lower at 49 and higher at 61.

To compare a Hilton hotel's own price with the booking sites for your exact dates, Underbook's free hotel price checker shows the price each booking site lists on Google Hotels for that hotel and dates, and whether a lower listing names the same room: https://underbook.co/hotel-price-checker.

Hilton's own price against the booking sites

In our 16 price snapshots of September 25 to October 10, 2026 (6,620 hotel prices), Google Hotels listed 487 prices at 448 Hilton hotels in 214 cities, and Hilton's own site beside the booking sites at 415 of 487 (85%). Against the lowest of the six big booking sites (Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline, Agoda and Trip.com), compared like with like, the same check for other chains:

The hotel's own site against the lowest of six big booking sites, by hotel chain
HotelsComparedWithin 1%Own site lowerA big site lower

Marriott23070%10%20%
Hyatt12481%2%17%
IHG28070%5%24%
All chain hotels2,02372%8%20%

Against every listing, small resellers included, Hilton's own site was at or below every other at 92 of 385 (24%) Hilton hotels, and another site was 5% or more lower at 101 of 385 (26%), most often KAYAK.com (17), trivago DEALS (14), Traveluro (14); that lower listing named a room at 8 of the 101.

So at a Hilton hotel the big booking sites usually match Hilton's own price, as at other chains. A much lower price usually comes from a smaller site whose listing does not say which room it is.

Hilton hotels: the hotels whose name on Google Hotels contains Hilton (Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, DoubleTree by Hilton and others; Hilton Grand Vacations clubs left out), and the same rule for Marriott and Hyatt; IHG: names ending "by IHG". The hotel's own site is the seller Google Hotels lists under the hotel's exact name. Within 1% and lower or higher by more than 1%, against the lowest of the six on the same tax footing. Each snapshot: the lowest public price each booking site listed on Google Hotels for a US searcher, in US dollars, for a two-night stay, at one moment; not completed bookings, and not member or signed-in prices. A hotel priced in more than one snapshot counts once per snapshot. Method, charts and the per-hotel CSVs: the hotel price study.

What Hilton agreed to, and what the law asks of everyone

The Nebraska Attorney General's office announced settlements on hidden hotel fees: "Hilton, Marriott, Omni, and Choice have committed to making their pricing practices more transparent." The chains agreed to "prominently disclose the total price of a hotel stay, including room rate and all other mandatory fees" on the first page of their booking websites, and "to include required fees when a consumer sorts by price". The release recalls that its office had sued Hilton in 2019. Source: the Attorney General's release, read October 23, 2026.

The FTC's rule makes the same thing the law for every seller of US hotel rooms, booking sites included: "Effective May 12, 2025, the FTC’s Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees, 16 C.F.R. Part 464, prohibits bait-and-switch pricing". A mandatory resort fee must be in the total shown first; "taxes or other government charges" may be left out of it and added before you pay. So the difference between Hilton and a booking site is not the rule but where each puts the fee and the tax. hilton.com answered our requests on October 23, 2026 with an error (HTTP 403), so this page does not describe how a given Hilton rate is laid out; read the total on its last screen as you would on any site.

One Hilton resort, on Booking.com

At the Hilton Hawaiian Village on October 19, 2026 (a stay of November 17 to 20, 2026, not signed in), all 85 offers on Booking.com listed the $55 nightly resort fee as included in the price, with the hotel's taxes on a separate line. Its fine print said the fee "may not always be added to your final online transaction": the hotel may collect it at the property instead. Expedia's page for the same hotel never loaded its rooms in two tries. More pages: which booking sites show resort fees upfront.

How to compare a Hilton price with the booking sites

  1. Take the total, not the first price, on Hilton's site and on each booking site, for the same room, dates and cancellation terms.
  2. Look for the resort fee in each total; on a booking site it can sit in the price, beside it, or in the fine print.
  3. Count what only one side gives you, such as a member rate or points on a direct booking, separately from the price.
  4. If a small site is much lower, check that its listing names the same room before you book.

Checking your own stay

Underbook is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and a free web price checker. For a hotel and dates it shows the price each booking site lists on Google Hotels, all-in where the sites report taxes and fees (a resort or destination fee may be extra), and says whether a lower listing names the same room or needs a check before you book. You always book on the site you choose. On a Hilton hotel it lists the hotel's own site beside the booking sites when Google Hotels shows it.

Hilton prices and fees: common questions

Does Hilton show taxes and fees upfront?

For mandatory fees, by its own agreement: Hilton agreed in a settlement with Nebraska's Attorney General to show the total price of a stay, including the room rate and all other mandatory fees, on the first page of its booking sites. Under the FTC rule in force since May 12, 2025, every US hotel and booking site must do the same, and taxes may still be added before you pay.

Is Hilton more transparent about price than the booking sites?

Not by rule: since May 12, 2025 the FTC requires every seller of US hotel rooms to include mandatory fees such as a resort fee in the total it shows first. Where sites differ is where they put the fee and the tax. Compare the totals on the last screen.

Is Hilton cheaper than Booking.com or Expedia?

Usually the same: Hilton's own site was within 1% of the lowest of six big booking sites at 262 of 372 Hilton hotels (70%) in our 16 price snapshots of September 25 to October 10, 2026, lower at 49 and higher at 61.

Do booking sites show a Hilton resort fee?

They must show a mandatory resort fee in the US total. At the Hilton Hawaiian Village on October 19, 2026, Booking.com listed the $55 nightly resort fee as included in every offer, and its fine print said the hotel may collect it at the property.

How do I check a Hilton price across sites?

Compare the total for the same room, dates and cancellation terms on Hilton's site and two booking sites, or type the hotel and dates into Underbook's free price checker, which lists each booking site's price on Google Hotels and the hotel's own site when Google shows it.
