Does Booking.com show taxes and fees upfront?
Resort fees, usually. Taxes, on a separate line.
Resort and destination fees, usually yes; taxes, as a separate line: on October 19, 2026, at 14 of the 15 US Booking.com hotel pages we opened that charge such a fee, every room price already included it ("Included: $55 Resort fee per night"), while the hotel's taxes sat under the price as "Excluded" (for example "Excluded: 13.38 % TAX") and were added at checkout. At 1 of the 15, Sonesta Denver Downtown, a $25 nightly destination fee was only in the fine print, outside the room prices.

Fees ran from $25 to $55 a night before tax (median $50), 6.8% to 64% of the night's price. No page put a resort or destination fee among the "Excluded" lines. At the Hilton Hawaiian Village all 85 offers listed the $55 resort fee as included, and the fine print added that it "may not always be added to your final online transaction": the hotel may collect it at the property.

Is the price on Google the same as on Booking.com?
Mostly, at the moment it is listed. When we opened Booking.com's own pages for 27 hotels from our price study on October 2 and 3, 2026 (not signed in), 25 showed the price Google Hotels listed within 2%; the other 2 offered a members-only price beside a higher public one.
What Google shows US searchers is, in its own words, "Google will prominently display the total price, which includes the base rate and mandatory non-governmental fees." So on Google too, the first number for a US hotel can leave taxes out. Source: Google Hotel Prices: Taxes and Fees Policy, read October 23, 2026.
Booking.com's terms (updated August 25, 2025) say: "When you make a booking, you agree to pay the cost of the Travel Experience, including any charges and taxes that may apply." Source: Booking.com Terms of Service, A7 Prices, read October 23, 2026.
How to see the full Booking.com price before you pay
- Read the lines under the room price. "Included" is already in the price; "Excluded" is added later.
- Open the fine print (the property's important information) for a fee the room prices do not show.
- Take the total on the last screen, in one currency, and compare that with the hotel's own site and one other booking site.
- Signed in, check the Genius price too. It is not the public price Google Hotels shows. Is the Genius discount worth it?
Checking your own stay
Underbook is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and a free web price checker. For a hotel and dates it shows the price each booking site lists on Google Hotels, all-in where the sites report taxes and fees (a resort or destination fee may be extra), and says whether a lower listing names the same room or needs a check before you book. You always book on the site you choose. Its Booking.com row is the public price a signed-out visitor gets, not a Genius price.
Booking.com taxes and fees: common questions
Does Booking.com show taxes and fees upfront?
Resort and destination fees, usually: at 14 of 15 US hotel pages with such a fee on October 19, 2026, every room price included it. The hotel's taxes were a separate "Excluded" line added at checkout, so the first price you see can be below the total you pay.
Why is the Booking.com price higher at checkout?
Mostly taxes: on US pages they sit under the room price as an "Excluded" line, such as "Excluded: 13.38 % TAX", and are added at checkout. A fee that is only in the fine print, or a charge in another currency, can add more.
Does Booking.com include resort fees in the price?
Usually. Every offer carried a line such as "Included: $55 Resort fee per night" at 14 of 15 pages with a fee. At Sonesta Denver Downtown the $25 nightly destination fee was only in the fine print.
What does "Excluded" mean on Booking.com?
It is a charge that is not in the room price shown, usually the hotel's taxes, and it is added at checkout. "Included" means the charge is already in the price.
Is the Booking.com price on Google the same as on its own site?
Mostly: 25 of 27 Booking.com pages we opened on October 2 and 3, 2026 showed the price Google Hotels listed within 2%. The other 2 offered a members-only price beside a higher public one.
