Is momondo legit?
Yes. It searches, but it doesn't sell.
momondo launched in Copenhagen in 2006 and has been owned since 2017 by Booking Holdings, the same parent as KAYAK, Booking.com, and Priceline, and it is operated as part of KAYAK. So the company is real and the prices it shows are genuine quotes pulled from airlines, hotels, and booking sites. The part people miss is that momondo doesn't sell the booking itself. It gathers prices and then redirects you to another site to actually pay, and that final site sets the all-in total, the cancellation terms, and the support you get if something goes wrong. The deal is not fake. It is just unfinished until you see the number at checkout. Here is how to check it.

The verdict, in plain terms

How momondo makes money, and why that shapes what you see
momondo is a metasearch engine: it collects prices from airlines, hotels, and booking sites and lines them up, but it doesn't take your payment. It earns money when you click through to a seller, through referral and advertising deals with the booking sites it lists, and some placements on the page are sponsored. That model is normal for the category, and it is the same way its siblings work. We've written the same honest breakdown of Kayak, Skyscanner, and trivago, because the pattern barely changes between them.
Two consequences follow. First, momondo has no reason to invent a fake low price, because it doesn't collect your money; the quotes are real numbers submitted by real sellers. Second, momondo also has no control over what happens after the redirect. The moment you click, you are the customer of whichever airline, hotel, or reseller offered that rate, and that seller sets the final total, the terms, and the support. Most "momondo burned me" stories are really stories about the seller on the other side of the redirect.
One more thing worth knowing: because momondo is operated as part of KAYAK, the two share much of the same search plumbing and many of the same partners. If you compare them side by side you will see overlapping results with different ordering and sponsorship, but the prices themselves match. In 14 snapshots of our hotel price study (September 25 to October 1, 2026), KAYAK.com and momondo.com listed the same price before tax, to the dollar, at all but one of 938 hotels where both appeared on Google Hotels, and KAYAK.com and Hotelscombined.com, a third Booking Holdings search site, matched at all 1,045. That is the signed-out listed price, not a room-by-room check. Checking both is fine, but it is not the same as checking two independent sources.
When the cheap price is real, and when it moves
The headline number on momondo is a preview, not a receipt. The final all-in total is calculated at the seller's checkout, where taxes, resort fees, service fees, baggage charges on flights, and currency conversion get added, and inventory can shift between your search and your click. That is why the number sometimes moves after the redirect. It usually isn't a bait-and-switch. It is the difference between a quote and a bill.
The second thing to know is who wins the cheap slot. On hotels, we measure this constantly, and momondo itself appeared as a seller at 114 of the 434 hotels in our September 25 snapshot. In our September 2026 study (6,254 hotel prices), some site listed the stay 5% or more below the going rate at 4,512 (72%), most often Super.com (1,239 hotels, typically 19% below), but at 3,765 of those 4,512 hotels the cheapest listing named no room. A cheaper listing whose room name matched the going-rate room turned up at just 515 of 5,830 hotels (8.8%) on our original room check (952, or 16.3%, on the stricter October 1 check) in the 14 snapshots that compared room names, most often on Agoda, Hotels.com and Vio.com. Matching names is strong evidence, not proof. The cheap number is real, but it often belongs to a seller with stricter terms and thinner support, which is exactly when you should slow down and read before you pay.
This is the same pattern we describe in why hotel prices differ across sites and same room, different price. The search tool is fine. The discipline is comparing final totals for the same room, on the site that actually charges your card.
The fee and currency gotchas at the redirect target
- Taxes and mandatory fees land late. Some sellers headline the before-tax rate; resort fees and city taxes can appear only at the final checkout step, or even at the hotel desk.
- Currency is often an estimate. momondo can display your currency while the seller charges in another. The conversion you saw is approximate, and your card may add its own foreign-transaction fee on top.
- The cheapest rate is often prepaid and non-refundable. Small resellers frequently win the top slot with strict terms, membership pricing, or a different room category than the one you assumed.
How to verify a momondo deal before you book
Note the total the seller will charge, including every fee, in the currency your card will actually be billed in. Then pull the same number from the hotel's own site and one other booking site for the same room and dates. Compare totals, not headline rates. If the momondo result still wins after fees, and the seller's terms are ones you can live with, it can be a genuinely good deal.
Before you book a momondo result, check three things
- 1. Who actually sells it. Note the site momondo redirects you to, because your payment, confirmation, changes, and support all come from there.
- 2. The all-in total. Compare the price after taxes and fees, in your own currency, not the preview shown on momondo.
- 3. The room and the terms. Confirm it's the same room type and read the cancellation policy, especially on the cheapest listings, which are often prepaid and non-refundable.

momondo is not the only search site Google Hotels lists. HomeToGo, a Berlin search site where you book with the provider, matched another listed site's price at 1,518 of 1,722 hotels in our data (Is HomeToGo legit?). goSeek and Etrip.net, two sites that name FindHotel B.V. (the company behind Vio.com), usually showed Vio.com's price (Is goSeek legit? and Is Etrip.net legit?). HotelsCombined, which Booking Holdings bought in 2018 and which reports into KAYAK, showed the same price as KAYAK.com at all 1,045 hotels listing both (Is HotelsCombined legit?). Wego, run by Wego Pte Ltd, a licensed Singapore travel company, was listed at 463 hotels (Is Wego legit?).
