What Chicago hotels cost, by star class

On September 25, 2026, the median all-in going rate by Google Hotels' star class: 4-star hotels $308 (5 hotels); 3-star hotels $254 (4 hotels). Per night, for Oct 30 to Nov 1. With this few hotels per class, one hotel moves a median a lot. The going rate is the price the largest number of listings that named a room or offered free cancellation agreed on (ties go to the lower price).

The table counts hotels with all-in prices only; the 8 hotels with a listed price only are in the list below it, marked "listed".

Taxes and fees in Chicago

On September 25, 2026, taxes and fees added a median of 18.9% ($43 a night) to the before-tax going rate of a Chicago hotel, as the booking sites reported them to Google Hotels. Across the 9 hotels with both prices it ranged from 15.1% to 19.1%, from Warwick Allerton - Chicago to Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave. Our data does not split the gap into taxes and fees, so it cannot say which part, if any, was a resort or destination fee.

At 8 hotels no site reported a before-tax price, so their listed prices may leave out resort or property fees: Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park, The Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago Loop, Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown Riverwalk, The Hoxton, Chicago, Le Méridien Essex Chicago, Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Loews Chicago Hotel and Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile.

How often a site was 5% or more below the going rate

On September 25, 2026, at 15 of the 17 Chicago hotels a site's price was 5% or more below the hotel's going rate, by a median of 21% ($65 a night). The study's own count, before taxes and fees, from its per-hotel CSV: 15 of the 17 Chicago hotels with a price.

A lower price is not always the same deal: it can be a smaller room, a non-refundable rate, or a listing that names no room. Each hotel's page shows which sites named a room.

Which booking sites were lowest most often in Chicago

On September 25, 2026, at the 15 hotels where a site was 5% or more below the going rate, the lowest all-in price was on Super.com at 8, KAYAK.com at 3, Hotels In America at 2, br.Bluepillow.com at 1, Etrip.net at 1, goseek.com at 1, Hotelscombined.com at 1, momondo.com at 1 and 2 other sites at 2 between them (a tie counts for each site). By the study's before-tax count, the cheapest site there: Super.com at 8, Hotels In America at 2, KAYAK.com at 2, br.Bluepillow.com at 1, trivago DEALS at 1 and Vio.com at 1.

Free cancellation at Chicago hotels

On September 25, 2026, at 12 of the 17 hotels at least one site showed Google's free-cancellation label on its lowest listing; at 2 of them the lowest price itself carried it. At the other 10, the lowest price with free cancellation was a median of $38 a night (16%) above the lowest price.

The hotels with the biggest gaps between sites

On September 25, 2026, these Chicago hotels had the widest gap between the lowest and the highest site, per night (all-in where the sites reported taxes and fees, else listed prices):

• Swissotel Chicago: $248 on Super.com to $1,405 on goseek.com, 467% above the lowest (27 sites).
• Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park: $223 on Super.com to $1,229 on Clicktrip.com, 451% above the lowest (15 sites).
• The Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago Loop: $222 on Hotels In America to $1,071 on Clicktrip.com, 382% above the lowest (19 sites).
• Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile: $309 on Hotels In America to $1,274 on Clicktrip.com, 312% above the lowest (21 sites).
• Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile: $350 on the hotel's own site, Booking.com and 4 other sites to $1,105 on Clicktrip.com, 216% above the lowest (9 sites).

The highest price is often a different room or rate, so the gap shows how far apart listings were, not a saving. The snapshot kept up to 28 listings per hotel, so higher prices may be missing.

When to book: what our data can and cannot say

Our Chicago prices come from snapshots taken on a few dates, so they cannot tell you the cheapest month to stay in Chicago, or how far ahead to book. They show one stay on one date, every booking site side by side.

What we can show is how the going rate of the same stay moved in one week. In the study's week-later repeats we priced the same stay at the same Chicago hotels twice, 7 days apart (the hotels of the first snapshot of each pair, so not always the hotels above); "up" and "down" count hotels whose before-tax going rate moved more than 2%.
