Is CHECK24 legit?
A German portal that books as an intermediary.
CHECK24 is a German comparison portal, and on its hotel sites you can also book. The legal notice on check24.de names CHECK24 Vergleichsportal Hotel GmbH, of Münster (commercial register HRB 16885, Münster local court) for the hotel comparison, its Austrian hotel site names the same company, and its terms say it acts as an intermediary: the booking contract is with the hotel or other provider named in the offer, not with CHECK24. Its Spanish hotel site is run by CHECK24 Travel International GmbH, of Munich. Google Hotels listed one of the three at 156 hotels in our price snapshots, 154 of them in Europe, and the study never recorded CHECK24 as the lowest price. Here is what we measured, and what to check before you book.

The verdict, in plain terms

What is true in its favor

- Its terms say it acts only as an intermediary, takes any payment only on the provider's behalf, and as a rule charges no service fee of its own to change or cancel
- Its Austrian hotel site says the service is free for customers, paid for by commissions from providers
- Its price was the same as another listed site's at 125 of its 156 hotels, most often Booking.com's
Why you should be careful
- The study never recorded it as the lowest price at any of its 156 hotels
- Its German terms say cancellation fees of up to 100% of the booking price can apply
- Its German terms say hotels may charge extra local taxes that the booking system cannot show
- Its listings named a room at none of its hotels, and it was listed at only 156, so these figures rest on few hotels

Google Hotels' links for the three CHECK24 sellers in our data went to those hotel sites. We could not check the German commercial register record, whose search needs a form. They can change.

How often CHECK24 had the lowest price
In the 14 price snapshots of September 25 to October 1, 2026 that recorded every booking site's price, we priced the same two-night stay at 5,830 hotels in 348 cities on every site Google Hotels listed. CHECK24 was listed at 156 of them (1 in the US). The study never recorded CHECK24 as the lowest price at any of them. It showed the same price as the listing recorded as lowest at 6 of them (when two sites show the same lowest rate, the study records the one Google listed first). For comparison, some site was 5% or more below the going rate at 4,181 of the 5,830 hotels, and Super.com was recorded as the lowest most often (1,193 hotels). Google Hotels listed three CHECK24 sellers: its German hotel site at 67 hotels, its Spanish one at 66 and its Austrian one at 23, never two at the same hotel; the figures here add them up.
CHECK24 next to Booking.com
The sites whose price CHECK24 matched most often were Booking.com (77 hotels) and Priceline (64). At the 147 hotels where CHECK24 and Booking.com were both listed in our 14 price snapshots of September 25 to October 1, 2026, it showed the same price at 77. Where the two differed on the same tax footing, Booking.com was lower at 25 and CHECK24 at 29; at 16 more the two prices could not be put on the same footing. Its listings carried Google's free-cancellation label at 21 of the 156 hotels (13%) and named a room at none of them. A price with no room attached may be for the smallest or a non-refundable room, and you cannot tell from the listing.
These are prices from one moment in each snapshot, as Google Hotels showed them (all-in where the site reported taxes and fees, else the nightly rate), not completed bookings. Where two sites' prices differed, we say which was lower only when both were on the same tax footing (both before tax or both after), which we infer from the hotel's going rate with and without taxes, as on trivago vs Expedia. Before you book a CHECK24 price, check four things
- 1. Booking.com and the hotel's own site. In our data its price matched Booking.com's at 77 of 147 hotels listing both, so a third site is where a different price shows up.
- 2. Who you contract with. Its terms say the contract is always with the provider named in the offer, not with CHECK24, and that CHECK24 takes any payment only on that provider's behalf. Note the provider on the booking screen.
- 3. Local taxes at the hotel. Its terms say hotels may charge extra local taxes that its booking system cannot show, so compare the total after taxes and fees and expect a tourist tax at some hotels. See hotel booking fees explained.
- 4. The cancellation terms. Its terms say cancellation fees of up to 100% of the price can apply, under the provider's conditions, and that CHECK24 as a rule adds no service fee of its own. See whether free cancellation is worth it.
