Honest review
Is Tripening legit?
A named company. Its prices ran high in our data.
Tripening shows up on Google Hotels as Tripening Hotels. Its terms name tripening, Inc., a company governed by New York law, and describe it as an intermediary: it collects your payment on behalf of the hotel or other supplier and keeps an intermediary fee. In our price data its price was rarely another site's (the same as some other listed site at only 66 of 1,158 hotels), and it was more than 2% above the going rate at 896 of 1,025 hotels where we could compare on the same tax footing. Here is what we measured, and what to check before you pay.
Measured, not sponsored: the numbers come from our own price snapshots. If you book through a link from Underbook we may earn a commission from the booking site you choose, at no cost to you, and it does not change what we show.
The verdict, in plain terms
A site run by a named company that calls itself an intermediary. In our data its price was usually above the going rate and above Booking.com's, and its listings never named the room.
What is true in its favor

- Listed at 1,158 hotels in 318 cities in our data
Why you should be careful
- Its price was more than 2% above the hotel's going rate at 896 of 1,025 hotels compared on the same tax footing (median 18% above)
- Where its price and Booking.com's differed on the same tax footing, Booking.com was lower at 754 hotels and Tripening at 120

Measured, September 25 to October 1, 2026
Tripening against the going rate
For each hotel, the going rate is the nightly price most listed sites agreed on, before and after tax. In our 14 price snapshots of September 25 to October 1, 2026, Tripening was listed at 1,158 hotels, and at 1,025 of them its price could be put on the same tax footing as the going rate. It was more than 2% above the going rate at 896, more than 2% below at 78 and within 2% at 51; the median was 18% above. At the 397 of those hotels where the going rates showed under 2% tax (often because no site reported taxes separately), so the tax basis cannot explain a gap, the median was 19% above.
Tripening next to Booking.com
At the 1,067 hotels where Tripening and Booking.com were both listed, the two showed the same price at only 8. Where the two differed on the same tax footing, Booking.com was lower at 754 and Tripening at 120; at 185 more the two prices could not be put on the same footing. When Booking.com was the lower one, it was typically by $30 a night; when Tripening was, by $14.
How often Tripening had the lowest price
In the 14 price snapshots of September 25 to October 1, 2026 that recorded every booking site's price, we priced the same two-night stay at 5,830 hotels in 348 cities on every site Google Hotels listed. Tripening was listed at 1,158 of them (560 in the US). The study recorded Tripening as the lowest price at 4 of them, 4 of those 5% or more below the going rate (typically 26% below). For comparison, some site was 5% or more below the going rate at 4,181 of the 5,830 hotels, and Super.com was recorded as the lowest most often (1,193 hotels).
Its listings carried Google's free-cancellation label at 235 of the 1,158 hotels (20%) and named a room at none of them. A price with no room attached may be for the smallest or a non-refundable room, and you cannot tell from the listing.
These are prices from one moment in each snapshot, as Google Hotels showed them (all-in where the site reported taxes and fees, else the nightly rate), not completed bookings. Where two sites' prices differed, we say which was lower only when both were on the same tax footing (both before tax or both after), which we infer from the hotel's going rate with and without taxes, as on trivago vs Expedia. Method and the CSVs are on our hotel price study.
Before you book a Tripening price, check four things
- 1. Booking.com and the hotel's own site. Where Tripening's price and Booking.com's differed on the same tax footing in our data, Booking.com was lower at 754 hotels and Tripening at 120.
- 2. The intermediary fee. Its terms say part of what you pay is an intermediary fee kept by Tripening, which may not be refunded if you cancel. Read the total and what is refundable before you pay.
- 3. The room. Its listings in our data never named one. Compare the room name and bed type with the room you would book on the hotel's own site.
- 4. The cancellation terms. Its terms put the cancellation and refund policy on each service page and on your booking voucher. See whether free cancellation is worth it.
Underbook (built by us) is a free Chrome extension that helps with the comparison while you shop. On a hotel page it shows other booking sites' prices for the same hotel and dates side by side, all-in where the sites report taxes and fees, and says whether a cheaper listing names the same room or needs a check before you book.
