Is Pilot legit?
A real Canadian company. Check the room.
Pilot (pilotplans.com) is a trip planning app that also books hotels, and its prices show up on Google Hotels under the name "Pilot" next to Expedia and Booking.com. Its terms name HappyHour Services Inc., of North Vancouver, British Columbia, as the owner and operator. In our own data it was the cheapest site for 25 hotel prices, nearly all at big chain hotels. But those cheapest listings never named the room. Here is what we measured and how to check a Pilot price before you pay.
We have no affiliate relationship with Pilot. Underbook (built by us) leads with the lowest price it finds, whoever lists it, and says whether it names your room.
The verdict, in plain terms

How often Pilot is the cheapest hotel listing, and what its price leaves out
Across 15 snapshots taken between September 22 and October 1, 2026, we recorded every booking site's price that Google Hotels showed for the same two-night stay, 6,254 hotel prices in 348 cities. At 4,512 of them some site was 5% or more below the rate most sites agreed on. Pilot was the cheapest site at 21 of those 4,512, tied for nineteenth overall and typically 16% below the going rate: 11 in the US, 4 elsewhere in the Americas, 4 in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, 2 in Europe.
The pattern: 24 of the 25 times Pilot had the lowest price were at chain hotels (Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, Accor and others), where the hotel's own site also sells the room. And across all 25, its listing named the room 0 times. When Agoda was cheapest it named the room at 264 of 380 hotels; Booking.com at 320 of 396; Vio.com at 99 of 538. A price with no room attached may be for the smallest or a non-refundable room, and you cannot tell from the listing.
These are before-tax prices from one moment in each snapshot, not completed bookings. Method and the CSVs are on our hotel price study.
Before you book a Pilot price, check four things
- 1. The room. Open the listing and compare the room name and bed type with the room you would book on the hotel's own site.
- 2. The all-in total. Compare the price after taxes and fees, in your own currency. Pilot's terms say local taxes due on arrival may not be covered in the purchase.
- 3. The cancellation terms. Pilot shows its cancellation and change fees at booking, and the hotel's own policy also applies. A 16% saving on a non-refundable room is a bad trade if your plans might change. See whether free cancellation is worth it.
- 4. The hotel. Pilot's terms say the hotel's own confirmation code may only be issued closer to check-in. Keep Pilot's code, and contact the hotel before you travel to check it can see the reservation.

Across 6,254 hotel prices in 348 cities that is a small share: most of the time another site was lower. At none of the 25 times it had the lowest price did its listing name the room.
Why is Pilot cheaper at big chain hotels?
We cannot see why. We can see where: 24 of the 25 times Pilot had the lowest price were at chain hotels (Hilton, IHG, Wyndham and others). Chains sell the same hotel under several rates, and a price that does not name the room may be for a different room or rate than the one you picked on the chain's own site. Compare the room and the cancellation terms before you book.
Can I cancel a Pilot hotel booking?
It depends on the booking. Pilot's terms say cancellation, modification and name change fees are shown at the time of booking, and that the booking is also subject to the hotel's own cancellation policy. Read them before you pay.
